Simply Black and White

Happy Monday!  I had wonderful weekend. I hope you all had a great weekend too!  Today, I bring you a classic black and white look. There is something to be said about a simply colour palette. I have the most wonderful mother in law who is also an avid sewer.  She has her own line of a custom rugs and wall hangings that are absolutely stunning,
 # www.krazyladykreations.net  She purchased this fabric for me and knew that I would be able to do something with this funky fabric.  It is a black and white stretch polyester fabric that screams a fitted dress.  Once I saw this fabric I knew exactly which pattern I was going to use.  I had Vogue 1314 that I was hoping to sew. I wanted a simple fitted dress and thought that this fabric would be perfect.  This fabric was so easy to sew and had the right amount of stretch. I cut a size 6 and did a FBA because I know it needed to be fitted throughout.  The instructions were easy to follow as there were few pattern pieces.  Although the pattern calls for a lining, I did not line the dress because the fabric was thick enough.  I completed the dress in approximately 3 hours.  I used my serger for most of the seams.  I find that when working with knits the serger can be your best friend.  I realized that I didn't have enough fabric to cut the sleeves the same way as the body, so I cut the sleeves the opposite.  It turned out pretty well and helped to break up the zebra print and so I cut the neck binding the same way. My favourite feature on this dress is the ruching along the sides.  This was a fun pattern to sew and there is a lot of potential.
