It's a Good Day

I finally had a chance to catch up on my personal emails and the whole blogging thing.  I feel like I am being pulled in a bunch of different directions.  I get into a mind space where all I want to do is sew.  That if I could, I would just sew all day.  Sadly, the realities of life call and I have other things to do.  I often relish in the moment where I can spend time sewing and blogging, things I enjoy doing and for those moment I put the rest of the duties of life on hold.  So...when I finally got to check on the blog, I received a lovely note from a fellow blogger, Wear A Wyatt who has nominated my very new blog for a Liebster Award.  Now you may be asking yourself, what is a Liebster Award.  Like you, I too did not have a clue.  So off I went to research this award and find out if it's a good thing.  After a few quick searches I discovered that this award is given to new bloggers and  the rules are simple...
  1. You thank the person who gave you the award
  2. Then link back to that person’s blog
  3. Copy and paste the Liebster award to your own profile
  4. Answer the 5 question your nominator asked
  5. Pick 5 blogs who you feel deserve to be noticed (they have to have under 200 followers)
  6. Ask them 5 questions
  7. Then finally blog it and leave a comment to let your 5 choices know they have been chosen.
  8. Nominate 5 blogs
So when Wear A Wyatt nominated me, she presented me with 5 questions that I need to answer.  So here goes...

What made you start to blog?

I have been sewing for quite awhile and I wanted a place to share but also to preserve my projects.  It was a way for me to document what I have done.  The big push came when I decided to do the RTW fast.  This decision confirmed that I need to keep track of what I am making and see how my experience and style changes over the next year.

What is your proudest sew & why?
Wow, that's a great question.  I would have to say when I made a winter coat for myself.  I always wanted a dress coat for the winter.  I wanted something that was long and stylish but didn't overpower my petite stature.  I was at a crafting show and found this amazing black wool fabric that had pink stripes running through it.  I immediately knew that I wanted to use that fabric to make my coat.  The rest is history.  I made that coat about 3 years ago, I still wear it when I get dressed up.

Have/would you, considered a career involving sewing, if so, in what capacity?
I have considered it off and on.  The issue for me is that people are not willing to pay you what you deserve. Their only frame of reference for purchasing clothing comes from clothing that is produced in sweat shops that only pay their employees pennies a day, keeping the cost low to produce.  Little do they know if the clothing was produced in North America, etc. they would be paying a fortunate. So for me, I don't typically sew for anyone else but myself and my "mini me".

What would be the ultimate sewing challenge/make you dream of completing, Why?
I would have to say this current challenge.  I have never committed myself to sewing for a full year, and not purchasing any RTW items for a full year.  I am excited and nervous.  So far it has been rewarding, going into my 4 month.

What's the biggest faux par you've had with a sewing item?
Hmmmm...I'm not sure.  Because I have no formal training is sewing, I don't know if I am doing any sewing faux pas's

MY NOMINEES ARE:

1. Sewmanju- sewmanju.wordpress.com

2. Gjeometry-Gjeometry.com

3. Urban Recyclist- http://urbanrecyclist.blogspot.com/

4.Yellow Submarine Time- http://yellowsubmarinetime.blogspot.com/

5. The Enantiomer Project-enantiomerproject.blogspot.co.uk

Questions:
  1. What made you start to blog?
  2. What is your proudest sew & why?
  3. Have/would you, considered a career involving sewing, if so, in what capacity?
  4. What would be the ultimate sewing challenge/make you dream of completing, Why?
  5. 1 sewing technique that you absolutely love.

  1. Oh, Wow, I'm so honoured Sharon, thank you so much! I shall answer your questions here:
    1) I started to blog at the same time I began to sew because I thought that it would keep me 'on track' with my sewing and also make me more credible if I had questions for other bloggers/sewists about sewing.
    2) My proudest sew is probably my 1930's Beach Pajamas: ( http://gjeometry.com/2013/06/04/great-gatsby-make-the-cats-pajamas-one-giant-leap-for-womankind/ ). The fabric I chose was SO difficult to work with, cutting and sewing and the instructions for the pantsuit were really missing some steps, so I became so frustrated, but then....ta da! Everything worked out in the end and I love them!
    3) I have not really considered a career in sewing beyond dreaming because I love it so much and do it for relaxation and would be worried that doing it for work or for a living may quell that love somewhat. 4) 4) The Ultimate sewing challenge would be a Chanel Jacket and Skirt.
    5) I love using bodice gathering in strategic locations to make subtle designs and to add fullness, rather than darts.
Thanks again Sharon and I'm so delighted that you drop by my blog and enjoy it! Do come again. :)
